JK-8 Weekly Update

JK-8 Families--  I hope everyone is enjoying your extended weekend and will enjoy another day home tomorrow.  It has been a great start to the school year and the students are settling in well.  It has been awesome to see them back in the building and they are doing a wonderful job of getting back into the routines of the day.

This week we will see middle school sports teams starting their activities.  I am sure some of our youth fall sports have already begun as well.  High school sports have also started and our student sections have been really good!  Just a reminder, all of our students can get into contests for FREE this year.  5th-8th grade students need to show their student ID to get in.  4th and under need to attend with an adult and don't need to show their ID.  Let's keep up the school spirit by bringing the energy from the student section!

As I mentioned last week, we had a special guest with us this week.  Joe Beckman spoke with all the grade levels, on Thursday, after speaking with our staff and at a M.A.Y. Mentoring community event on Wednesday.  He had a great message to our students about being Difference Makers in our schools.  Hopefully your student(s) came home and talked about their experience with him.

Lastly, I forgot to mention this last week, we are encouraging students to show their school spirit EVERY FRIDAY this year.  As a staff, we always wear our Shenandoah gear on Fridays.  This year, we want the students to join in!  Encourage your students to wear Maroon or something that says Shenandoah on it every Friday.  We are also going to do some theme Fridays to spice it up, so watch this email for those announced days as well.

Upcoming events:

Monday: No School, 7/8 Band at the Essex Parade

Tuesday: No MS events

Wednesday: Early Out 1:25

Thursday: MS VB @ Clarinda, MS FB (H) vs SW Valley

Friday: No MS events

Saturday: 7/8 Band at the Popcorn Days Parade (Hamburg)

As always, don't forget to check out our school website (www.shencsd.com) or Facebook page (www.facebook.com/shenpk8) to keep up with what we are doing here at school.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to reach out to me.  Thanks and have a great week!  --Mr. Burdorf #horsepower
