Weekly Update Oct 3

JK-8 Families--  We have entered October and this month is Bully Prevention Month.  On Monday, we encourage everyone to wear BLUE for Bully Prevention Day.  As a building leader, this is one of the topics that seem to come up regularly.

We live in a world where it has become easier and easier for people to pick on each other, harass each other, and bully each other.  It is unfortunate but true.  From a principal perspective or even from the overall education world, it seems that hurtful words just flow out of mouths without much thought or from the hidden protections of a screen (social media, texting, Snapchat, etc).

Together we can make a difference.  Together we need to set better examples for our children.  Together we need to have meaningful conversations that express that these types of actions aren't ok.  A great website to tackle those conversations is www.stopbullying.gov which provides information and resources on the topic.  Here at the Shenandoah JK-8 building we continue to do our best to educate and stop bullying but not everything happens in our presence so we need your help too!

It was another good week of activities for our students as the XC team hosted their home meet and placed very high along with another football win!  The MS band also competed in the marching portion of Clarinda Band Days and placed 3rd.  From what I am seeing and hearing we also have some strong youth volleyball and football programs who are competitive and winning on the weekends!  Congrats to all of those teams as well.  Let's finish off the Fall strong!

It was also awesome to see over 100 of our students, at the football game Friday night, who participated in the youth cheer camp this past week!
