Weekly Update Sept 26
JK-8 Families-- If you haven't heard from your students, this past week was an exciting week as most of our classrooms got their new desks and some new tables. We still have some work to finish up but the new stuff looks great and matches throughout the building. Like I said in last week's message, we want to make sure to say a big THANK YOU to all the staff from the Pella plant who have been out here assembling, delivering, and removing old furniture. Without their gracious time and effort this project would be a long way from being over, we are very fortunate to have them helping us!
One of our academic goals this year is to help our students get caught up from two years ago. Our staff worked diligently last school year to make up for the lost time but we recognize that we have more work to do.
At the middle school, we have already created enrichment opportunities that will continue to be adjusted as we see needs arise from students. Each grade level has enrichment groups that target math and reading along with homeroom time to stay up-to-date on current work.
At the elementary, we are targeting increased reading growth. Each morning students are spread out to small groups for a 20 minute boost in either math, reading, or social skills. These groups are fluid and flexible. On top of that, starting this week we will be adding targeted groups for reading. Each grade level will have 60 minutes, split up into three 20 minute rotations. With the smaller groups and rotating them to different staff we are hoping that we can do much more targeted skills. Be watching your student's bag for a letter with more information.
