Weekly Update May 2

K-8 Families--  We have made it to May!  I want to say thank you for helping us get this far and let's have a great end to the school year.

This week is Teacher Appreciation Week and I think we owe our teachers a big "Thank You" for all they have done for our district and our students this year!  In no way has this year been easy for anyone.  Nothing about this school year was normal but I think our teachers have done a great job of helping our students grow and prosper this school year!  Here at school, we have some things planned to show them our appreciation but I bet a simple "thank you" message from you to them would go a long way too!

Hopefully your students came home in a good mood on Thursday or Friday after we had a surprise slushie party.  In the elementary building, we called our little party "Slushie Thursday" and I told them it was our own made up holiday.  They were so excited!  Why slushies?  Just because!  It was our way of saying "thank you" for being great this year!  We want to say "thank you" to Ryan Baker and HyVee for providing the machine and the mix, along with the Shenandoah Athletic Boosters for allowing us to use their machine, so that over 800 slushies could be served to our students and staff!

We also need to say "thank you" to everyone who helped or participated in the PTO track and field meet on Saturday.  It was great to see everyone out enjoying the beautiful day!  Hopefully you didn't get too sunburned!

Don't forget that iReady and FAST testing will begin this week.  This will wrap up our testing for the year, I am absolutely positive we are going to see growth again and we will see our kids continuing to move in the right direction.

Congrats to the Boys track team on their win Friday night at FM!  Congrats to the girls for placing second in that same meet!  It was great to see both of our teams in action at our home meet this past week.  This week their only meet is on Friday with the girls going to Creston and the boys competing here at home.  Good luck to them!

In terms of school activities, this week is pretty quiet but I am sure everyone has things going on.  I am sure our little dancers are getting ready for recital, baseball and softball games are getting started, soccer has been going on and I am sure there is so much more!

As always, don't forget to check out our school website (www.shencsd.com) or Facebook page (www.facebook.com/shenpk8) to keep up with what we are doing here at school.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to reach out to me.  Thanks and have a great week!  --Mr. Burdorf #horsepower
