Weekly Update April 18
K-8 Families-- As I prepare to write this there is a terrible 4-letter word on my mind and I have a feeling that my mindset will want to head in a very negative direction on Monday and Tuesday! That being said, mindset is a choice and I am going to work really hard to have a positive mindset. This week is just as important as any other, so why ruin it? My weekly quote to my staff this week was "Your energy is contagious. Either you affect people or you infect people." The choice is yours!
Although the first two days this week won't be great to get outside, our students will be getting outside over the next few weeks to enjoy the nice weather. We have elementary classes planning picnics at the park. We have the 6th grade who is going to participate in Earth Day by doing some cleaning at a local park on Friday. The 5th and 6th grade "track and field" day will be held in the afternoon on Friday, May 14. I am sure there will be many more events scheduled and I am sure all the teachers will be communicating information to you about those.
As a reminder to all the 3rd-8th grade families, ISASP testing is happening this week from Tuesday-Friday. I sent a separate email on Friday with details. If you have any questions, please let me know.
Congrats to the MS girls track team who had a strong first outing with the 8th graders winning the team title and the 7th graders getting second! This week we are supposed to see both teams in action on Monday in Treynor, the girls are scheduled to be in Clarinda on Tuesday and then the boys at Lewis Central on Thursday. Hopefully we will get to see some of that action!
Upcoming events:
The 5th and 6th grade music programs will be held on Tuesday, April 27. The 5th grade will start at 5:30 and the 6th grade will start at 6:30. Both of these concerts will be held in the HS gym. Masks will be required to attend but we will not have any audience number restrictions.
The 3rd (5:30) and 4th (6:30) grade music concert will be held on Friday, April 30. These concerts will be held in the K-8 Commons. We ask that only immediate household members attend to accommodate social distancing. Masks will be required to attend.
The Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grades have been creating their virtual concerts and it has been fun to see them in action. Those videos are in the production room and we hope to have those out to you in early May.
The PTO Track Meet (ages 5-12) will be on Saturday, May 1. Don't forget to get your registration forms in by April 23 for the early-bird discount.
May 18 will be Middle School Showcase Night. More information will be coming soon on that event as well.
As always, don't forget to check out our school website (www.shencsd.com) or Facebook page (www.facebook.com/shenpk8) to keep up with what we are doing here at school.
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to reach out to me. Thanks and have a great week! --Mr. Burdorf #horsepower
