Weekly Update February 28

K-8 Families--  We got our full five days in and wow was it a busy week!  Not to make excuses but having our first full week match up with a full moon....  you get the idea.  It was great to have nice weather though and get the kids outside for recess again and hopefully your kids got outside when they were home as well.

This week is a short week with Parent/Teacher Conferences on Thursday and no school on Friday.  Hopefully you have been able to navigate your way to PowerSchool to get signed up for your conference.  We had awesome participation in the Fall and we hope that you can all join us again here in the Spring.  Teachers will be sharing your students iReady or FAST scores and hopefully you will get a great report of how your student has grown over the last few months!

Please remember to send your students reading minutes in on Monday.  We will be collecting those and tallying them so we can celebrate on Wednesday during our Read Across America celebration.  We were just short of 100,000 minutes read on Friday, I hope this weekend's totals will get us over that number!

Don't forget about the dress up days this week, Monday is HAT DAY, Tuesday is WEAR GREEN day, and Wednesday is WEAR YOUR PJs day.  We have some fun activities planned for the Elementary students on Wednesday, we can't wait to celebrate!

We have wrapped up our winter sports seasons.  The girls basketball team had many big wins and the wrestlers all did very well!  We look forward to seeing them all continue to grow and get better as they get older and more experience.  Track will be starting soon so we look forward to that as well.

The Penny War has concluded and the winners were the Middle School by just $17.97 more than the Elementary.  The total between the two buildings was $1,155.32 with that money going to the MS Student Council for some projects that they are working on.  I guess that means Mr. Burdorf is going to be made into a human cake in an upcoming assembly.  I think since it was so close, Mr. Newberg can be made into a human cupcake as well!

As always, don't forget to check out our school website (www.shencsd.com) or Facebook page (www.facebook.com/shenpk8) to keep up with what we are doing here at school.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to reach out to me.  Thanks and have a great week!  --Mr. Burdorf #horsepower
