Weekly Update February 14
K-8 Families-- Happy Valentines Day! I hope you and your family are cuddled up on this snowy, freezing cold day, maybe enjoying a movie and hot chocolate or taking in a good book, adding up the minutes for our Read Across America challenge at the elementary.
Don't forget that Monday, Feb. 15 is a teacher inservice day so we will not have school. Tuesday looks to be the coldest day yet so please make sure students are bundling up, especially those who ride the bus!
This upcoming week you should be getting information to sign up for Parent/Teacher conferences. Conferences will be held on Thursday, March 4th via Zoom, just like we did in the Fall. That means we won't have school on the 4th or the 5th, so please make sure to mark that on your calendar.
Elementary students, continue to read with your students over the next few weeks, they are adding up their minutes before we name some classroom winners and grade level winners on March 3rd at our Read Across America celebration. It has been fun seeing their minutes being recorded outside their classrooms.
The penny war has been extended through the 19th, so if you haven't sent any of your spare change to school, this would be a good time to empty out those random places where change piles up. This is a Middle School Student Council fundraiser but all of the JK-8 grade levels are competing to see who can bring in the most!
As always, don't forget to check out our school website (www.shencsd.com) or Facebook page (www.facebook.com/shenpk8) to keep up with what we are doing here at school. Some really fun things get posted, including students of the month and right now you could read about 8th grader Davin Holste receiving the Top Youth Volunteer of 2021 award for the state of Iowa which comes with a $2500 scholarship!
