Weekly Update February 7
K-8 Families-- Another weekend of snow... just my opinion but it can stop already! Maybe you enjoy it but I feel like this week's cold spell might put us all over the edge hoping for Spring.
This week it will be more important than ever to make sure your kids are dressing for the weather! We won't warm up enough for outside recess but if your kids ride the bus before/after school or if they are in an activity that will be headed to an event, they need to be dressed appropriately. Hats and gloves too!
MASK MANDATE: If you have been following the news you may have seen that Governor Reynolds has dropped the mask mandate here in the state of Iowa. THAT DOES NOT APPLY TO OUR SCHOOL BUILDING. No rules have changed for us here at school, we will continue to have a mask requirement at school, including at activities.
I know I might sound like a broken record, as I have addressed this many times but we need to continue to work together on morning drop off. THERE ARE NEW SIGNS TO HELP WITH INSTRUCTIONS. When you stop between the signs, no matter where, that is when your students need to exit the vehicle. They can go in either the Elem or MS doors so they do not need to be dropped off directly in front of their building. We need to keep the line moving. Also, continue to be safe and not pass anyone.
Also, I know that after school pick-up leads to a congested lower lot. Please park in a spot until your student gets out to you. If you wait in the exit line it prevents others from backing out and being able to leave. Both morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up are busy but we just need to be patient and work together for the safety of everyone involved.
How about something happy?! We have wrapped up our K-6 FAST testing and we are very pleased with the results. As a group the number of students who were proficient jumped up to 57% from our Fall results of 44%! The elementary saw an improvement from 37% to 52% and the 5-6 grades moved from 60% to 68%.
Thank you to everyone who is involved in helping our students grow! Staff members are working every day to dig into data that can lead targeted instruction for students to grow. How can you help? Encourage your students to read, read, and read some more!
