Weekly Update Nov 15
K-8 Families-- In these uncertain times, it may be easy to forget some of the really important things in life. If you are like me, you may feel distracted a lot and can't focus for long periods of time. What I have come to realize is, that is ok. Everyone is dealing with things beyond their control.
Every week I write this same type of message to the JK-8 staff, reminding them of upcoming events and general information they need to know about. At the end of each message I give them a quote to think about and hopefully move them in some way. This week the message was this:
"You have the power over your mind - not outside events. Realize this, and you will find strength" ~Marcus Aurelius
What we need to do is move forward with what we can control, ourselves. As educators, our focus should be on the WHY of education. Why do we do what we do? I hope it is because we are trying to make an impact on our student's lives, build relationships, and to drive them forward as a successfully educated, thoughtful, and kind person. I hope you know your why and it drives you to daily success!
This week we start to host middle school boys basketball games. If you haven't seen the new guidance for activities, you need to know the following. These expectations have been set forth by the Governor and the IAHSAA/IGHSAU, these are not set locally.
1) Each player will only be allowed 2 fans to attend. There will be no general admission for anyone beyond those 2 fans.
2) Only basketball players will be allowed to have 2 fans. No scorekeepers, managers, statisticians, or cheerleaders will be given passes.
3) None of our students or staff can stay to watch the game unless they are one of those 2 fans who have a pass.
4) Masks will be required at all times while attending games.
***More information will be sent out by Mr. Weinrich on Monday.
We continue to be as vigilant as possible when it comes to our health and safety here at school. This week we have moved our lunch tables from 50% capacity to 25% capacity to spread students further apart while not wearing masks. We are also making some adjustments in band to also spread students apart while playing instruments without masks.
Just a reminder about Thanksgiving Break, we will have an early out on Wednesday, November 25 and no school on that Thursday or Friday.
Families, please continue to be monitoring your students for symptoms of Covid 19. If your student doesn't feel well, please don't send them to school. This year, more than ever, it is better to be safe than sorry. We understand and we will help your student make up the time when they return.
Again, don't forget to check out our school website (www.shencsd.com) or Facebook page (www.facebook.com/shenpk8) to keep up with what we are doing here at school.
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to reach out to me. Thanks and have a great week! --Mr. Burdorf #horsepower
